Basic Class Structure

Classes normally begin with a series of warm up and stretching exercises.  These are done to help get the blood circulating and muscles prepared for the techniques that will be taught. Students will be taught to fall and roll safely so they can practice the many throwing techniques involved in Aikido.  They will also be taught the six “basic movements” that are the foundation movements for all of the techniques they will learn.

Aikido is a non-competitive art, so students will work with partners in the class in a true “give and take” relationship versus sparring or fighting.  Students will learn to apply techniques and to have the techniques applied to them safely.  Classes can be quite vigorous, but individuals will never be expected to exert themselves more than they are able to physically.  Instructors will take into consideration any injuries they are made aware of as well as any limitations and will adjust the student’s workouts accordingly.

We try to practice strong and crisp techniques utilizing strong spirit, but we also try to have fun while learning.
